primordial cosmic horror entity born without a name and a soul, draconic in form and destructive in nature – that is the being that has currently come to be known as aodh. for as long as he can remember, he has traversed the multiverse, seeking for his one true mate. it is an innate calling, a void that needs to be filled and one that has been ingrained into his existence since the very moment he first gained consciousness.

his beginning was fraught with trial and error. the only one of his kind with the pitch blackness of deep space to call home, aodh spent his formative years gathering knowledge and adapting to his surroundings, whether it be by exploring the limitations of his self or visiting innumerous worlds. he learned cultures, mastered languages and attained a multitude of skills. but he also wrought chaos and destruction, stoked fear and bloodshed wherever he went because that too was his calling.

he never had a predecessor to show him the ropes. he had no parents to tell him what he was, what he could do and what he should do with all of his innate gifts and talents. mirroring what other species did, he had to figure everything out all on his own. sometimes the lessons were innocuous in nature, such as the first time he shifted into a new form; other times, it was a cruel look into what he was truly capable of, given the choice and the chance.

as eager as he was to commune with others, aodh lacked empathy, compassion and morals. he was a self-serving and greedy being, one that could not be controlled and too powerful to be stopped. when he didn’t get his way, he either manipulated or forced the situation to go his way – or he simply annihilated it to eliminate the problem entirely.

but there remained one thing that violence could never absolve for him.

initially optimistic and hopeful, he sought for his mate, while he traversed the multiverse to find ones like him. but that search was futile and it became futile with each century that passed, with each millennium that passed. sure, he found lesser kins – other dragons that were similar to him, but they were of a different breed and he could not find solace with them. eventually, he came to accept the truth that perhaps he was the only one of his kind.

it didn’t dissuade him from continuing his search for his mate, however. even if they aren’t like him in any way, they would still fulfill that hollow part of him.

the tides of time passed and his experiences matured him, yet they also warped and disenchanted him to his reality and to his pursuit. he met countless beings, dated and fell in love (or at least he was certain it was love), yet any relationship he pursued ultimately ended in betrayal, failure or loss. the more desperate his search, the more it gradually drove him insane. eventually, to stymie it and to soothe the disquiet of his heart, aodh chose to fall into a deep slumber on a tiny blue and green planet, where his lesser kins thrived.

he slept for millenniums, only to be violently awoken by the final cries of his lesser kins being eradicated. it ignited a rage-fueled fire within him once more and rekindled a long buried desire to destroy and lay waste to the stars, and it would eventually drive him into complete and utter madness as he resumed that endless and unforgiving quest.

insanity was an escape for him. he no longer had to care, to feel hope and face disappointment, to acknowledge the aching desperation that clawed at him at every waking moment. ravenous and destructive, aodh would spend millennium upon millennium consuming planets, uprooting universes and leaving a trail of devastation and emptiness in his wake.

where can madness go once it has surpassed its peak though?

immortal and unable to truly die, his anger and pain soon calmed and paved the way back to some semblance of sanity. he no longer destroyed just to destroy. he no longer incited chaos and stroked the flames of violence to quell his own frustrations. he once more began to immerse himself into worlds and their diverse communities with a willingness to befriend and expose himself to new beings and opportunities. although his search for his mate continues and his yearning shall never ease, he has more or less come to terms with it.

mostly, he clings to a hopeless hope and placates himself with excuses and reason.

if he fails to find his mate in one universe, then they must be in the next. if he is unable to find them in this century, then it must mean that they have yet to be birthed or, perhaps, they exist in a world that he has yet to explore or revisit.

but he shall find them!

one day. certainly, one day he shall find his beloved mate and, when that time comes, he shall be made whole and he shall know peace.

OPT-OUT.

Aodh is a massive toxic red flag with a history of
violence, mass murder, obsessiveness and mental instability.
